VICTORVILLE — Riverside Prep and University Prep renewed their rivalry Friday afternoon with the Silver Knights winning 3-1.

Riverside Prep took a 2-0 lead at halftime and had a 3-0 lead before University Prep scored.

Riverside Prep is the defending Cross Valley League champs and the teams have owned the league for the last four seasons. University Prep has three titles in that span while Riverside Prep has two — the teams shared the league in the 2013-14 season.

“It’s always good to get a win against them,” Riverside Prep assistant coach German Flamenco said. “It puts us in a position to have the league in our grasp as long as we don’t mess up. First game against UP, you always want to win those against them. We want to put the league in our hands, not theirs.”

Noel Fragoso, Andy Espitia and Bryan Gomez scored for Riverside Prep while Gabe Pimentel and Steven Lopez had an assist each. Goalkeeper Chandler Hubbard made 10 saves.

Ryan Ortiz scored for University Prep.

Riverside Prep (4-0-1, 2-0 CVL) is back in action at the Eagle Cup tournament in Lancaster on Saturday. The Silver Knights face Mammoth in the semifinals.
