Area Roundup 1-23-18: Riverside Prep continues hot streak with 20-point win

ORO GRANDE — The Riverside Prep boys basketball team has won eight of its last nine games after beating CIMS 63-43 on Tuesday evening.

Lu Baron led the way with 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Amir Bahar chipped in nine points and eight rebounds, and Sal Maldonado added 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Silver Knights (11-8) are now 6-3 in the Cross Valley League, which currently puts them in third place. They’ll host Big Bear, which is tied for first place, on Friday.

“Ever since winter break we’ve been on a roll,” Riverside Prep coach Chris McIntyre said. “Now we are looking to take the momentum into Friday’s game against Big Bear and throughout the rest of league.”

“They took it to us last game in Big Bear. That deflated us a little bit. Guys are confident now. We changed something around.”

McIntyre credited his team for doing a good job moving the ball around on Tuesday.

The Silver Knights also got some reinforcements with the inclusion of freshman Dylan Girton and Jason Willridge, who both came up from JV for Tuesday’s game.

“They stepped in and got some qualify minutes,” McIntyre said. “We’re looking to see if they can build something for the future.
